Barrio Capitanejo (Ponce)

Capitanejo once contained two sugar mills and plantations that relied on the coerced labor of enslaved Africans and their descendants: Hacienda Fortuna (later the site of Central Fortuna, whose ruins still exist there) and Cintrona Segunda (once owned by the Archeval brothers) which by the mid-19th century became the most productive sugar mill in the region.
